Volunteers are Important to the Very Fabric of Our Organization

Volunteers are the vital link in our services and add an immeasurable human value to the quality of what we do. We believe that those we serve deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and our volunteers are the living examples of that belief.

For instance, more than 240 Wichita residents donate their time to our Meals on Wheels program, the largest volunteer based endeavor of our programs. Each day, our seniors tell us the best part about their meal is the friendly, caring volunteers that they see each weekday. Our Meals on Wheels program offers many opportunities for those who want to get involved with a nonprofit in their community and help seniors stay independent.

MEALS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Volunteers can choose a day, or days, to deliver meals Monday – Friday, throughout Wichita County. All meals are typically prepared to be picked up and delivered at 10:30 a.m., on average it takes 30-40 minutes to deliver meals.

In addition, we believe that each volunteer’s role is far more important than simply delivering meals to the members of our family, specifically -

  • They are often the only contact our seniors have all day;
  • They provide a warm smile and a caring attitude;
  • They help THE Kitchen ensure the well being of our seniors;
  • And they are the eyes and ears of the Meals on Wheels program and often alert THE Kitchen staff regarding any additional needs that may be required to guarantee the independence of our seniors.

Meals on Wheels volunteers are required to have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and to complete a volunteer application (click on Volunteer Application below to process your application).  Children and students can volunteer with an adult 18 years of age or older.
