The Kitchen

High Heels for Hot Meals 2019 was the most successful event yet, raising $65,000 for Meals on Wheels.  Almost 300 sponsors, donors, and supporters celebrated at The Forum on April 11th.  The Shoe Garden, displaying shoes creatively decorated by businesses in the community, brought in almost $10,000.  The winner of The Soe Garden, Frank Wilson with LiveMoney.com, was presented with a trophy and six tickets to see the Texas Rangers.  DJ Marcus livened up the crowd while they enjoyed the casino tables and dancing.  Two watches, donated by Holder's Jewelers, were given away at the end of the night for the signature drink raffle.  Winner of the casino ticket raffle received a Tangles package.  The live auction packages included a trip to Hawaii, trip to see The Voice in Los Angeles, trip to Ruidosa and stay at the Rainmaker resort with golfing, and a night time guided Hog Hunt, guided fishing tour, and CHL classes.  Four attendees donated a season of meals to Meals on Wheels.  THE Kitchen appreciates all of the sponsorship and donor support that has made it possible to provide 13,000 meals to our clients.

Meet the CEO

Jackie Hamm, CEO

I truly understand the quote, "choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life," because for me, serving The Kitchen isn’t a job, it’s my passion.

Welcome to The Kitchen family! Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to help support a growing concern in our community…senior hunger.

A recent report documents the growing problem of senior hunger in America, and Texas figures prominently in it. Texas ranks #6 in the percent of seniors facing the threat of hunger in the U.S.

The report, titled “The State of Senior Hunger in America 2012: An Annual Report,” was prepared by respected economists Dr. James P. Ziliak and Dr. Craig Gunderson for The Meals on Wheels Research Foundation. The study, which is based on 2012 data (the latest year for which data is available), found 9.3 million seniors face the threat of hunger nationally, and the problem is growing.

In Wichita Falls, The Kitchen struggles to keep up with the growing demand for Meals on Wheels.  Our staff prepares approximately 1700 meals every day. We could not accomplish this without YOUR help.

Again, THANK YOU for your support of Meals on Wheels in Wichita Falls.

Jackie Hamm

CEO
