8th Annual Senior Idol

The Red Door Senior Center’s 8th Annual Senior Idol was held Friday, July 13th. Fourteen seniors competed for bragging rights as best singer. Ron Kingcade, who sang “Can’t Help Falling In Love with You,” won the first place trophy and a gift basket from Kindred Hospice. Johnny Blackwell, who sang “The Keeper of the Stars,” won second place and a gift basket from Hospice Plus.
Special thanks to our Senior Idol judges: Gwyn Bevel of KFDX, Brian Shrull of KAUZ, and City Councilor Mitesh Desai as well as emcee Joe Martin.
Ladies of Senior/Junior Forum helped serve drinks, carry trays, and participated as backup dancers in the finale performance of “Love Shack” sung by Kitchen Staff member Torry Anderson.
Please take a look at our Texoma Gives page by clicking the TG Heart at the top of our page.  THE Kitchen's big event for THE DAY OF TEXOMA GIVES, Thursday September 13th, is A HEART FULL OF CHANGE.  From 7am - 7pm, the parking lot of 1000 Burnett will have a chalk drawn Texoma Gives Heart ready to collect any spare change you would like to give for the Meals on Wheels weekend meals program.  (We will also take the kind of change that folds.)  Our hope is to fill the heart completely with change and make a CHANGE in our community.  Help us feed the hungry by remembering us on that day with a credit card, cash, or check.  Until TEXOMA GIVES, you can also donate change at these locations:  Blaine Purcell MD's office, Brian's Plumbing, Cavendar's, Danny Foix Exxon, 8th Street Coffee House, Fill n Chills, Kell Optical, Natural Grocers, Sewell Toyota, Star Brite Cleaners, Stone Oven Pizza, and The Shoe Closet.  Every penny counts!  Make sure to thank these business for helping us.
The Ladies of Omicron Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha generously donated $240 to the Meals on Wheels Weekend Meal Program and joined our Lunch Bunch Society.  Thank you, ladies for your dedication to the community and for helping to feed the hungry in Wichita Falls.
ATMOS Energy received the Give Light Award for Excellence in Corporate Engagement for volunteer efforts with THE Kitchen's Meals on Wheels program.  Randy West of Atmos Energy received the reward on behalf of the company at the awards ceremony sponsored by the Junior League of Wchita Falls on April 26th.
For over 38 years, ATMOS Energy has been delivering meals for Meals on Wheels.  Approximately 35 employees alternate to deliver faithfully every week Route 36 in our community.  A trophy was presented at the event and $1,000 will be donated by the Junior League to the Meals on Wheels program on behalf of ATMOS Energy.

Special thanks to YOU for  making Fallstown Dancing Through History a success!  Approximately 725 people attended, so we didn't break the record, but... those who attended and stayed said they were there to support Meals on Wheels.  It was not about Guinness!

Looking at the sea of faces from the stage, watching the children dancing alongside the other couples, hearing the laughter, being surrounded by smiles - it was deeply touching.  What a beautiful community we have, and because of your committment, it was all possible.

Some of the positive statistics:

1. Meals on Wheels profited approximately $20,000 despite the smaller turn out.
2. There were more participants than we have ever had for any fundraising event.
3.  Most of the crowd stayed until the end of the event and enjoyed the dancing, food trucks, kid's area, and vendors.
4. We had the highest turn-out from Sheppard Air Force Base than any event, around 75 active military.
5. We had the highest turnout of any event from MSU, over 100 students.

To see the photos of the event, like us on Facebook at The Kitchen - Meals on Wheels Wichita Falls and Dancing Through History.  Thank you for helping us feed the hungry in our community.

Lunch Bunch On-Line Event

THE Kitchen needs $200,000 to continue to fund our Meals on Wheels weekend program.  More than 70% of our clients will go hungry on the weekends if the program does not continue.
Our goal is to have the equivalent of 1,000 peple choose to be a montly donor of $20 a month - the cost of 4 fast food meals, for you. per month.  Donating a lunch per week allows seniors, disabled, homebound, and chidlren we feed through THE Kitchen's meals on Wheels program an opportunity to have a nutritious and delicious meal every day of the week.  Help us continue to deliver 850 meals a day to the hungry in our community.  To help, go to the top of this page to the DONATE button.  Under the subcategories is LUNCH BUNCH SOCIETY.  It takes just 5 minutes to help save our essential program. To help us more, like our event on Facebook and post that you are a member of the LUNCH BUNCH SOCIETY.
